After a fair few weeks of panicking about being a potential sans-abri for this year abroad, I’ve finally found somewhere to live. It’s all official, the landlady has my deposit so there’s no going back. I feel I can actually talk about it now…
Didn’t realise how stressful finding accommodation was going to be – especially as I don’t really have the means to be flying off to France just to go looking at apartments, sadly. So I was pretty much going on the basis of a uni-recommended website and had to weed out the weirdos for myself. One man nearly had me, the apartment looked great, perfect location, all that jazz. When I asked for a picture of the bedroom… Well let’s just say the man was trying to charge me 400 euros a month for a sofa bed in the corner of the room. Needless to say, my answer was a firm resounding NON. Not as bad as an offer my friend once received: a man was essentially renting out the other half of his bed to any willing young female. Most of the people I got in touch with ignored my ‘Can you tell me more about the room please’ emails or refused to answer all my questions, so clearly had something to hide. The situation was getting pretty dire.
So you can imagine my relief when I finally got a positive response! I’ll write more about the apartment and stuff when I’m there, but let’s just say it looks like it’s going to be a good one. Fingers crossed. Plus I’ll be living with two French people therefore will HAVE to speak French tout le temps…suppose that is the aim after all. Doesn’t make it any less scary!!
One job down, but a lot still to do. Insurance, health/eye/teeth check-ups, student finance….all needs to be done. Oh, and I need a haircut.
Four weeks to go!! Stress building.
A bientot
